I am wondering what is the best intercooler to fit to a 93 MU 3.1 turbo, and if anyone knows where to pick one up from. Thanks Neil

Easiest is from a 3.1 or 2.8 bighorn/jackeroo as all the pipework and brackets are ready to go. Otherwise any intercooler from a similar sized diesel or more than half sized petrol will work but could be a lot of fabricating. There is a older post about useing a Hyundai intercooler.

One from a bighorn is deffinately the easiest, as all the mounts are already on the motor, the rear mount is a real hassel to get so I left mine off!!! If you can, get one of the earlier ones as the scope is much bigger = more air. If you have a body lift in then i would also recommend putting a fan on top of it to suck more air in as well. you will probably have to make up another cowling but i think its worth it.

We've used a bighorn one with a fan on top as mulover suggested. Yet to test it but relatively easy to fit.

Send an e.mail to this address michael@proswim.com.au and ask him if he can remember my order Bruce Bates in Nanango Qld 4615 and ask for a quote on the same kit. Or the long way round go to coolboost on e.bay and go thru his directions. After the kit you will need all the red hoses you see on mine as well. Here is an photo of the radiator and fan on mine Now the size of the rad and fan is 330mm wide,230mm high and 130mm deep, so you need room to fit it. I have hardly ever used the fan so you may get away without one. See how you go and get back to me if you need anymore info. Cheers Bruce. PS and does it work, to right, actually has cooled the motor by say 15% than normal and with the 3 inch mandrel bent exhaust and a tune I will give any of the new CRD 3.0 litre motors a run for their money ;D actually drove a new Ford Ranger today and its quick but I don't think it is as quick as mine

Thanks for the help bruce. Just wondering how you went about mounting the radiator.

I drilled four holes in the top of the bull bar lining up with the four on the rad, placed some heavy duty rubber in between to absorb vibrations. Did not need to do the bottom as it sits ok from the top. I need now to cover the hoses so they do not rub away, they have not as yet but need to be sure.
Cheers Bruce
ps the silcone hose from the turbo to intercool core I could not buy the right size for the turbo end so I just cut the original hose and fitted the s/h over it. Will have to look for the right one see if anyone is now making that size its like 1 5/8 going into 2 inch or something but this works just check it every so often
