Hi guys,
I've just got home from a trip down to Melbourne and back .. approx 1900km round trip...
Anyway .. while I was in Melbourne , I had a hose come loose and caused me no end of dramas... I was driving up the Mt. Dandanong road to go to a wedding reception when all of a sudden my temp went from about 1/3 up the scale to way over H and I had a hissing sound .. pull over and I see a jet of steam shooting out of the right front wheel well .. called the RAVC out , they looked at the radiater and put some water in it , which proceeded to come back out near the oil filter .. the guy got under the MU , felt around a bit and said he couldn't fix it ., but I could have the MU towed back to the hotel for free .. so did that
the hose in question is down by the oil filter .. the mechanic said that it looks like the steel hose(pipe?) had perished/corroded and the clamp on the rubber hose was not even tightened .. anyway he managed to get the steel hose (pipe?) back in the rubber hose and clamp it back up .. only cost me $50 too , but had to wait 6 hours for him to fix it ..
SO, my question is .. what is this hose and what the hell does it do ? .. it held on for the 940 odd km trip down to Melbourne (most of it at 110-120 km/h) but decided to give up while doing 35km/h round a corner .. lol

Elysian these are all coolant hoses therer are about 7 all up NOT including the top and bottom radiator hoses.
You have a '91 and if you havent replaced them ALL I would suggesst you do ASAP.
The hose in particular that went is the oil cooler hose and you still have the bypass hose (under the A/C bracket), the turbo coolant hoses, the cabin heater hoses and the oil cooler hose that goes behind the block.
I suggest you do them all or suffer the fate of a few Isuzu owner and are up for an expensive repair if you do cook the motor.
Matt.

It would be an oil cooler, it cools the oil by using the coolant from the radiator, just the way they do it...

Matt your optomistic with 7 hoses A quick memory count got to 11. Some of those are multi part hoses with things in the middle as well. All the good books say replace all hoses every 6 years so yours are 3 times the use by date. The hose you mention plus one other feed the oil cooler. To change them you need skinny hands that bend the wrong way as well as long arms. Takeing the oil filter off helps with access. One of these pipes goes to a thermostat type valve then to anouther hose behind the engine. All this fits to a frame behind the enge that meets with the heater pipes on the other side. Then there is all the heater pipes the bypass pipes under the manifold (one of these is to blame for my isuzus only tow truck ride) the bypass hose under the aircon and the 2 pipes to the turbo. Have fun
