Hi
I currently own a 1991 izusu MU 2.8 which appears to have Oil in the radiator and water in the oil. Just wondering if anyone has struck this before and has an idea of what could be causing it.

3 possibilities 1st blown head gasket. On the 4jb1 this is unlikely unless the engine has overheated quite badly 2nd The oil cooler has failed. This is not common but the biggest suspect. If the engine hasnt always had the correct antifreeze mix they do rust out. The oil cooler is directly below the oil filter. To test take the 2 hoses off the oil cooler and join together with a piece of metal pipe (18mm I think) This means no water is going through the cooler but the oil still is. Run the engine for 30 min or so. (dont work it to hard like this) If oil appears out of the connections for the water pipes you have the culprit. Only a little harder to change than the filter. Getting to all this is easier with the filter removed but dont run the engine without the filter. 3rd seal between oil and water jacket in turbo. Not sure this is even possible so check last in a similar way to opt 2. Dont run the engine any longer than absolutely necessary with water in the oil. It does almost as much damage to the bearings as no oil at all and almost as quick ie turns engine into scrap metal. Its ok to use cheap oil while proveing the fault but put good oil back in once fixed
