I want to tow a small utility trailer with my 1992 MU (jap import). I went to a hitch shop and asked for tow bar for a 1992 Amigo - they were discontinued last year (hidden hitch), but then they started talking about under the vehicle wheel storage - huh?
Anyways there is a heavy duty 'step', with a heavy frame, on the rear. Can this plate be drilled to accept a towing ball? I only need 1,000 Kilos, they say a 'bumper hitch' can take this load.
What are you using for tow hitches over there (me being here in Vancouver, Canada)?

most tow bars are either a bit of square box section or heavy walled pipe with brackets that bolt onto the chassis rails. I mounted one onto the holes where that step goes, I'm not sure how heavy this step is but i put 10mm plate on mine. 1000kg doesn't seem much, but is still alot to tow.

Behind the cover between the bumpers you will find 4 10mm captive nuts the right spacing for a pintle hook but I wouldnt recommend fitting a towbar to this unless its only to tow very light trailers. The cross member itself is not strong enough and will crack. In NZ we go to a local engineer or towbar specialist (read engineer that only makes towbars) and he makes to fit. We dont have specific rules on tow bar ratings although most places make them very strong. If this is alowable under your local rules it could be the way to go. 1000kg is not a light trailer.
