I have a 96 Wizard 3.1TD, the drivers door window winder has broken, literally, the winding cable has broken, can I repair this with say a bicycle brake cable and if so has anyone an idea about where to start. I have tried to source a replacement but am having no luck.

Try your local holden dealer ie Williams Adams for new. Would be surprised if they cant get one but also surprised if you can afford it. Try Motex They have a few Mus and they might be the same no promises on this Try Melbar Cables They might be able to remake yours
