Does anybody have an idea of how hard it would be to change a 2dr 2seater MU, into a 4 seater, maybe with a soft top, from what is now the fibre glass ute lid? Any opionions much appreciated

Hardest part of that would be getting the top made, followed by the compliancing that would need to be done to make it legal.
Just check if the holes for seat & belt mounting are on your chassis. There are 2 mounts at the rear of the seat, plus one for the lab part of the belts. Two holes on either side near the wheel arches for the sash section of the belt.
Then 2 holes for each side of the front seat mounts.
I happen to have a spare rear seat & belts available, although freight from Hobart may be a bit exy. Have converted mine to a 4 seater.

What are your rules on vehicle mods. In NZ there could be all sorts of thorns in a mod like that although everything is probably bolt up. Try hunting American wreckers for a soft top Amigo. If you can get the top from one of those it should be simple.

Rules aren't too bad in QLD on seating conversions, as long as they are done properly. If you have everything mounted up the same as a 4 seater, it's all cool.

Thanks guys that gives me an awesome starting point. Another thing though does anybody have an idea of an american wrecker in Australia that would have anything other than the really main stream Yanke cars?
Or possibly if somebody knows anything about the soft tops and where in OZ to get one?
Cheers guys

You will be very lucky to find a Amigo in Aus. You will need to search in good ole USA. Luckily the internet helps. Also I think that UK got fronteras with soft tops that will be the same. Only look at pre 97 models as the body had a major shape change in 98 so the soft top wont fit. Soft top Mus do exist in NZ and aus but are extremly rare. Could be worth looking at a custom made soft top but this wont be cheap even against freight from USA for a frame needing a recover
