hey just wondering if 15x8 ROH steel rims will fit on a mu? will they fit inside the guards i dont want them protruding out cause cant get a warrant. I'm thinking of sticking with the 31" tyres If anyone knows what fits best and what kind of mud terrain tyre works well i would like to know. I've been told the Buckshots work well and are quiet on the road any help would be appreciated

Maxxis buckshots were flavour of month with clubs in Canterbury a year or so ago, but while good offroad, they are used less now as they did not clock up very good mileage. You might be better off with hankook RTO1s or new RTO3, or other brands people will recommend. E.g. my hankook 32" sets were 14m tread new, and I traded them off when tread depth got down to 8m - in that 6m use they had done about 40-42,000ks - this on swb bighorn - similar weight to mu. Unless they've changed their compound, you will find better mileage from other makes than the maxxis mudders.
KATS at kaiapoi will help with good deals for 4wd club people. I think their hankook muds are about $199 club price. Quite strong too - I did about 120k and untold 4wding with several sets of them, and had no flats and no tyres wrecked. Recommended.
Experience from others with different makes will help though. There are some good tyres about e.g. wrangler m/t and some people like savero etc. BFGs no longer giving big mileage after they changed to softer compound to meet need for higher onroad performance. Two mates running them got alot less miles than my hankooks gave - at alot more $$$.

Life is not always simple. What year is your Mu? If it has the drum in disc type handbrake you will struggle to get 15 inch rims to fit. If your sticking with 31s you dont need the wider rim so stick with a 15x7. Second hand hilux rims in 15x7.are the same offset and will give you the strengh of steel at a fraction of the cost Theres lots of these on trade me. I will have a set for sale in a couple of weeks but they are in Wellington and probably not worth the freight

Thanks guys gives me something to think about, i'll give Kats a ring see what they can do. My Mu is a 93 3.1 manual and yea it does have the handbrake shoes inside the disc does this make it harder to fit wider offset rims?

To fit anything smaller than 16 inch rims will foul the rear brake calliper unless they have most of the offset on the outside which could see you outside the gaurds. might be stuck with 16 inch rims and 265x75x16 tyres

I bought my late 95 model MU with 15" Rays Engineering wheels and there's no problem. Also know another 3.1 MU with 15" Landcriuser offset wheels withh 33 x 10.5 BFG muddies- no problem
