Hi guys I got sick of having to use the key to open the rear window when out 4wding, so I got a door lock motor and hooked it up to the window release rod. Wired it up to a push button on the dash and now one push of the button and the window pops open. I have found this good when you need to get to the tow rope but dont want to turn off the engine.

nice job...
I hated that too...but i had a second single spare key to open the rear window/door...and to open the door when i had left the keys inside the car.

another way could be using the turbo timer....just setting it the minutes you will delay to open the door and get in again without turning off the engine.
cheers

Did you Mu not come with this from the factory? Every Mu that I have seen has the rear glass release button on the dash already.

my '95 MU has a button just to the right of the steering wheel which electronically releases the back window. It's also hooked up to my alarm, so I'm living in the lap of luxury. As long as I never have to wade through mud to get that snatch strap out of the back of course.

I've often thought about doing this mod. Mine never had it. I never thought about using a door lock motor as I thought you would need a door lock controller, but thining about it now you don't really. The button does one way ona short press and closing the window drives the motor backwards (so to speak) - right?
The question I have though and often wondered about what di you do in regards to wiring. Was there wiring there waiting and unused? or did you run new wires? I never got around to looking myself yet. And what did you do at the switch end?

My '96 Wizard has the button on the dash there on the right of the wheel too. It is pretty convenient. I leave my window rolled down when I park it in the garage. It makes for easy window/rear gate opening to load items when I don't have keys on me

Mine never had any factory opener must be a lower spec model.
I ran a new wire from a power source through the switch and down to the back door to the motor then earthed it through the door. The hardest part of the whole job was getting the wire through the rubber sleeve between the body and the back door.

Mines a 92 and has this button. If someone has a 89-91 with this button would it be reasonable to assume that the wiring may be there in all models/years? One thing that I did find when I first got the Mu was that I thought there was an intermittent fault with this switch. Turned out that the handbrake needs to be on for it to work. Used to drive me nuts before I caught on.

Turnturn (?), is yours a manual? My button works as long as the automatic's gear selector is in Neutral or Park.

Mine didnt have the remote release button either. Went to the wreckers and $77.00 later had the actuator thingy, the rod and the switch. All factory, plugged straight in to the factory wiring harness. Took under 3 beers to fit. The handbrake activating the switch is a safety issue on the manuals (go figure) ...

Mine does the same, tranny must be in Park (maybe N works too, never tried) for the button to release the window. I pulled up to the house for a quick stop and pushed the button and it wouldn't let go....put the Tranny in P smart one ;D ...it works.
