Hi all, just wondering if I got a 2-3” body lift done to my MU, is there anything else that has to done along with the lift?
I have heard rumors that the brake cables might have to be extended/replaced and some other stuff?
Also can someone suggest where to get a body lift in Brisbane and approx cost?
Cheers Pissy

If you get up to a 2" lift then no, if you go for a 3" then probably yes. I realise its hard to generalise but I'm basing this on the difference between the Calmini 2" & 3" lift kits. It's also what steered me away from the 3" option other than cost. I'm sure there are people who have pushed the limits but I would say Calmini would have done a bit of research on this.
Did you get your stickers okay?

Yeah,..I got the stickers today, will go the MU ASAP.
Thanks for the insight, looks like I will only go for 2" body lift after I get the some new leaf springs in (would new springs cause problems, eg the new suspension gain of 2" and a body lift of 2" ?).
TJM told me that they are not allowed to sell/do body lifts in their workshops? Body Lifts are legal in OZ/QLD aren't they???
Oh well just will have to find a place that will it and find out costs.
Thanks again Justin

I've never heard of any real problems with up to 2" body lifts. Just have a good check underneath for streached break cables and wiring looms and adjustment to the gear levers. But another important one is check the steering coloum expansion joint is not maxed out. It would be embarising if this joint came loose on the road. Plus do use high tensile bolts for the mounts.
All you relly need if you want to do it yourself if plastic "hockey pucks" or spacers and bolts. Here in Chch I've had the spacers made for $60, plus bolts it don't cost much.

Sorry dude just realised you were talking Body not Sus lift. I will send you a PDF tonight, (it's on my home PC), of what's involved on a bodylift for an MU to compensate for my lack of attention. Do you have a non hotmail account without an attachment limit? J

Ok I have a 3" B/lift on my MU.
There are lots of things than needed to be done.
Steering shaft needs to be lengthened...
Gear sticks need to be lengthened
4 bolts in the back are bolted directly into the body and are metric fine (M10 x 1.25 pitch if I remember correctly) these cannot be bought in the length needed for 3" lift (not sure about 2") so I bought M10 standard pitch that were long enough to cut the thread end off and machine the new thread on...
Bumpers/ bullbars need new/ modifyed brackets
Radiator needs to be lowered
Thats about all that I can think about at the moment, I think it cost me about $300-$400 to do it....

On a 2" lift brake lines still have plently of play, my slush box lever is very marginal and won't 'click' into Low or Park but has to be shoved hard. Radiator had to be moved, n oprobs with steering column and bumpers are still to be altered, unless ARB bar comes first ;D

Not sure if the MU has the same setup as the s1 Bighorn but check the seat belt anchors under the floor. They may need to adjusted as well.

Geez, it looks like it's be a bit more involved than I first thought, as I am NOT technically/mechanically minded, I’ll have to get a pro to do it all for me. Has anyone in Brisbane had it done and where, as I would like mechanic who has done it before and not some first timer who might not know the extras that may be required to do. As stated before TJM will not do it.
Thanks everyone

Chaos Engineering are the ones that did the MU body lift and the MU suspension (Calmini) lift for the 4x4 Monthly magazine. They are in Silverwater in Sydney and I believe they are making all the bolts spacers etc as a kit.
Might be worth taking it down there for a weekend if you really cant find anyone in Brissy to do it for you. Im sure you can though, just ask in at one f the 4wd clubs as to who would takle it that they know of!
Goodluck!
Matt.

Hey Pissy, I know a guy who sells the 2"kit for MU in Brisbane, and he will also fit. I also know that Fourbys at Moorooka do it, and I also know that fourbys buy the kits from the guy I know

I'm having crazy ideas of getting 33" Baja Radial Claws, but will need to do Body lift I think. The conservative option would be to just put 32" STT's. Not sure what I should do.

Hey pissy, if you are going anything more than a 1" lift then you need to alter the radiator in some way, brake lines should be ok but keep an eye on the handbrake. it is a good idea to get the rear handbrake cables made a bit longer anyways! the seat belt anchours under the floor will have to be altered no mater what you do, 35mm lift and you just have to slot the holes a bit, anything more than that may be a cut and weld job. gear levers will be a problem, especially the transfer box one, make sure the rubber boot is on properly. and your fuel filler may be another issue as well.

Francesco, go 33" man, but get narrow ones as the mu's don't have the weight to make wide tires bite. i had my mates 33" savero mt's on and all ive got is a 35mm body lift and about a 11/2 suspension lift with cut guards and they only rubed a couple of times all day, but i didn't have the weight to make them bite!! still had enough power. my next set of tires are going to be 32x10.5 simex as they are pretty much a 33" mud tire anyways!!
