guday if i were to break some or all of the bolts holding on exhaust manifold how much to replace these bolts each? 2.8 td 4jb1. apreciate any feedback. cheers

Interesting question. They are only fairly standard exhaust studs so buying wouldnt be to bad from your favorite parts man but getting them out could be fun and theres not a lot of room around them. Expect any job on an Isuzu to take 1.5 - 2 times as long as it would on a Corola especially if your mechanic hasnt worked on them before.

I dont know You would have to go to Repco or similar or a Bearings and fastners place with one of the old ones. Are you worryed about possibly breaking one or have you broken one. Noone here has ever mentioned breaking them so a breakage would be rare.

easiest way to get them out would be to remove the head and drop it into an engineering or machine shop. The studs themselves would be pretty cheap. guess $5 each? If they break off with a reasonable amount still sticking out then soaking them in a good penetrating oil like CRC 5.56 or Mouse Milk etc and using a stud remover tool they should come out okay.

Hey damfran, the i have to 4jb1t's sitting here if you wanna know the exact measurements. Go to a specialized bolts shop and they will have them on the shelf. I use stainless steel bolts as they don't corrode the same and are easyer to get out. they wouldn't be any more than $5 each, but then i get stuff cheap cause i'm an engineer.
No offence Garth, but don't go near them with a stud remover as if they break off when you undo them then you will more than likely break the remover too, i have done this a couple of times. IF there is still a bit of the stud sticking out, no mater how short, weld a 10 or 12 mm nut onto it, spray with crc or similar and remove whist hot. Before you try to undo spray the studs with crc whist the manifold is worm and then keep dosing it all the time.
This is my ideas anyways!! Hope they are some use to you.

Additional to mulovers suggestions one good one is to tap or hit the end of the stud with a hammer. Think about the threads of the stud up up agaignst the threads of the head, hitting the end (not to hard) breaks and rust and moves the threads appart. It's a sometimes it helps method.
Also when refitting use graphite grease or copper slip and you won't have the same problem next time. Copper slip is beeter under exhaust temps, graphitc grease good on general purpose stuff. I do a fair bit of rustoration and have removed bolts fitted with graphite grease in 1909 with ease off gear that has been outside for the last 30 years!
