Hi all. Wondering if anyone has had new leaf springs fitted (with lift) to their MU. How much, how high, and do the Rodeo springs fit correctly?
Everyone I talk to can't say "Add a leaf" fast enough. I want to know ALL my options before parting with my hard earned.
I think I read somewhere here that it was done before. Cheers

Lovels in Austrailia are makeing new springs for my bighorn so they could be worth a call . I went through the same thing of just reset your old springs and add a leaf but consensus is that replacment is the way to go

Rog, cost me $400 but that paid for a NEW set of Rodeo Heavy Duty leaves that were a drop in fit! Gave me about 2 inch over the old springs and you cannot begin to compare the two. The old springs are single wrap (if you break the load spring you break the whole pack) while the others are twin (military wrap) and the ride is exceptional. I have recently added Calmini 2in raised shackles at the rear to give a new lease after 140 000km on the new springs!!
Still going great and wouldnt think of adding a leaf to the origional springs if within the budget.

What level of stiffness? Would harder be better because it's always carrying weight, whereas the ute doesn't always carry and stiffer=harsher?

Have just spoken to Dobinsons spring & suspension in Rockhampton as they have done springs for me in the past, found them to be very professional & friendly. They do not have MU springs in the computer so i will be in Rockvages in a week or so will get them to measure them then make a new set to my requirements. Dobinsons are a spring works all work is done in house, they also do alot of jobs for other suspension companies. Deal direct and save $ ;D ;D ;D. As soon as i get a price i will post.

I figured that Rodeo ones would fit because my bro's mate has a Rodeo 4x2. I measured from rear shackle to mount on chassis on both cars- the same, I got really excited ;D What sort of spring rates do you think would be good for the MU? I'm interesed in the Dobinsons price. Will go to ARB and Carrolls Springs in Melb on monday to get some prices. Cheers ;D

Hey MattMU, when and where did you get springs for $400? Did you fit them yourself?
Anyone know if they are easy enough to install yourself?
Got some prices today. ARB- Rodeo 400kg H/D springs, rear bushes, wind up front and wheel alignment= close to a grand (labour was $300- what a rip) I was told by Total 4wd last week (in Melb) that a wheel alignment is not necessary with wind up.
Carrolls springs- EFS Rodeo H/D springs + labour ($60 per hour)= $600+. Don't think front end wind up included. Reset and add a leaf was about half that.
Anyway, more homework for me. Cheers

Pedders were the best I could find at the time (3 years ago) and I got the whole suspension done. But the rear was $400 for totally new rear springs, but that was parts only. Throw in a few bucks for new Ubolts or if you are serious and dont want to waste money for new 'standard U bolts' I would look at UB skidderz to give better clearance under your axles!! See: www.darlington-offroad.com/item.jhtml;$sessionid$M0GC0TQAAABKPTZENUGXBMWPERWRJPX0?UCIDs=534357|1135292&PRID=1232546Swap is dead easy for ANYONE!! But I would suggest grabbing some new poly bushes while you are at it, mine were pretty worn and then you have a new rear end!! Enjoy! Matt.

Ive just recieved the new springs for the bighorn from Lovells in Aussi 30mm lift heavy duty and delivered to Wn $470 NZ Just got to find time to fit them. They are a huge difference to the last set of springs I changed on a Mk 1 Cortina 1 quick question after a quicxk measure up The new springs are 20 mm shorter at no load to the old ones which were still on the car . Remembering that the old springs have 35mm sag and the new springs are 30mm lift would this sound right? The new springs also have 5 thinner leaves to the std 3 leaf pack +overload spring
