I have a MU 4x4 Auto....I selected 4 wheel drive low and the only wheel to spin was the RH rear.It took a few attemps to reverse up the hill ( loose gravel). How can I check if it is in 4x4 and all wheels are working???

Auto or manual hubs? Autos will have auto written on them manuals will have a turn knob which has to be in lock to work. Manual hubs. Without car in 4wd or gear lock one front hub and try and turn the half shaft by hand It might turn up to half a turn before locking. If so this hub is ok Release and repeat on other side. Also try and turn the unlocked half shaft It should turn and turn the front driveshaft unless you have a locker. Auto hubs engage 4wd and drive forwards about 3 meters. Stop and take out of 4wd and gear and try and turn both half shafts in the forwards direction both should be locked. Drive backwards about 3 meters and you should here a clunk as they release. Whith the engine turned off and the hubs released engage any gear and 4wd Try and turn the front drive shaft The drive shaft should not turn. Remove from 4wd. Turn the drive shaft again It will turn and one of the half shafts will turn. If manual hubs lock this one and turn the drive shaft again The other half shaft should turn. If you pass all these tests there is nothing wrong. If you dont pass you should know where to look. Most likly place is the free wheel hubs followed by cv joints then front diff then transfer case. This is also the order of cost

I had the same problem first time I tried 4wd, but I did not put the MU in nuetral to select 4WD. After reading the user manual, I tried again in nuetral, everything worked fine. Hopefully it's that simple for you. Cheers.

There is another thing it could be, which happened with my MU was there when I brought it, there is a large cir clip that holes all the gears together in the transfer case, well mine was laying in the bottom of the case. So no matter what I tried I could not get front wheels to lock in, hope this is not your problem. Cheers Bruce
