When i first apply the brakes everything works well and you think you are stopping OK ,push harder and it starts to get a lot harder to stop, brakes will not lock up in a emergency stop, have had brakes lines bled ,front disks skimmed and new Bendix pads on the front, back pads OK. My 95 diesel has 130kms on clock have put on complete master cyl unit off 96 that had 90kms on clock still doing the same, have done emergency stops on sand and metal and only have skid marks for the front brakes , only other things i have been told it may be are low vacuum or a problem with the equalizing valve to the back brakes anyone got any suggestions

Try softer brake pads front and rear. P/s you will have more stoping ability if your brakes don't lockup

whats ya hand brake like,if it has a lot of travel it may need adjusting and you should find your rear brakes working better at a guess

Even if the handbrake seems ok lift the rear of the car with handbrake applie and try and turn the wheels. The one that isnt locked is the culprit. Read the other handbrake threads for more info. The rear brakes on these can be frustrating to get right if they are playing up.

I'd be looking at the vacuum lines, I found that when one of the small lines falls off it becomes a lot harder to stop....
