Does anyone know if the drivetrain behind a 2.6 petrol motor is the same as that behind the 4jb1T motor. There's a couple of cheap Isuzus on trademe at the moment with stuffed motors which could be suitable for parts.

As far as im aware the only differance is the diff ratio as the petrol needs more revs

Different diff ratios could be useful, depending on which way they're different.

Gives lower gearing ie petrol diffs in a diesel would not be good on the open road unless you have big tyres but you could climb brick walls. diesel diffs in a petrol unless its a comadoor v6 would be hopless every where

Shouldnt that be the other way around? You need to go the other way to turn larger tyres. ie: Those Isuzu Troopers in Iceland the have 5.38:1 diffs to turn the likes of 38 - 44" tyres. Petrol diffs in Isuzus are generally 4.3:1 whereas the diesels are generally 4.56:1. Going to the diesel diff would be some advantage to off-road ability with improved low range gearing and would also help to restore the vehicles normal gearing if you are going to larger tyres. As the 2 ratios are still fairly close the difference would not be spectacular though. Noel

North American Gas Troopers are 4:56 gears. I have a 91 Trooper. What model is the trans in the diesel. I don't think the 4ZE1 has the same bolt pattern. But not sure. Haven't had a good look.
