Is the milage counter part on the speedo electronic or mechanical?
Has anyone thought of altering the speedo so that it dosent record kms when driving off road.

hi i'd say the speedo counter is mechanical coz when mine gave up the counter didn't wind over either. after a hard day 4wding i had shagged out the plastic gear at the end of the cable which goes into the rear of the auto. but anyway why would you bother altering the speedo off-road when you normally dont do much milage anyway??? you probably do more driving to get to the desired venue anyway. unless off coarse you were intending on selling it & were thinking of the milage that way?. cheers muvit

Word of warning on that one. I have heard of occasions where a cop has suspected a disconected cable and jumped in and told the driver to drive round the block. He then puts a pink sticker on windscreen ordering car off road This is a revin to get back He might also guess how far the car has been driven without the speedo and fine acoordingly. Lots of people do disconect speedos but getting caught will hurt. If you have a mechanical speedo you have a mechanical oddometer Some very late isuzus were electronic

I have a mechanical speedo on the 3.1 auto, but it has a speed sensor in the cluster so it can't be disconnected. If you really want to avoid paying for your offroad km's, then contact ltnz and find a solution a legal way

you shouldnt do this but ill tell every one just so ya'll know.....
pull ya instrament cluster out(you will need to remove the steering coloum and ignition cover as there are two screws underneth the instrument cluster..unclip the clear cover the screws on the back that you need to undo are two for the speedometer, and five for the tachometer, two large ones similar two the speedo and three smaller ones in a vertical row...(2 on a manual).
this will alow the face plate to come off with the oil fuel and temperature gauges remaning in place.
holding the kms dial in place (eg 275645) is a small metal pin it has two grooved sections either side of the steel braket. with a medium amount of turning with a needle nose pair of pliers this pin will slide out and you can adjust the numbers to read whatever you chose? for kiwi diesil owners a popular number is the number matching the begining number on the RUC label in the window.
replace the pin. ensuring you have not left any dirty marks on the digits on the clock and give the face of the instrament cluster a wipe down with silicone to make it look all new. (theres nothing worse than going for a WOF and theres a fingerprint on the dial behind the plastic cover)
but most importantly dont do this too much or you may get caught....
dont wind it back any further than the previous wof as this is recorded on the ltsa database everytime you get a wof and make sure you,ve done a couple of hundred kms before you go for your next wof.... buy five thou kms and this technique should last you five or so years.....
you may ask how i know so much about the ins and outs of the automotive trade.
i work for a compliance centre and all we do is strip cars inspect, then reassembly ready to be vin plated.... perks of the job

I always thought that speedos were doctored before the cars got to this country Club isuzu cannot recomend any actions that have dubious legality. The last post is for educational purposes only.
