Would appreciate advice on parts and process for excess movement of my rear driveshaft in the housing where it fits into the back of the transfer case for my 1988 Bighorn 4jb1. Noticed some extra vibration while driving in the last week, and slight clonk under driver's area when turning.
Checked underneath and found shaft moving quite a bit where it slides into housing, maybe 2-3mm. No apparent movement in universal coupling. Also oil seepage round the area, i.e. stuffed seal.
Question is how to rectify. Is it a bearing (or metal backed bush up in where driveshaft fits? Also seal comes out and can be refitted without removing back of transfer case, but do I need to remove this to remove bush/bearing? Is there anything else that could be causing/influencing this.
Have 70mm extended shackles giving about 35-40mm height increase which may be affecting driveshaft angle and causing wear.
All advice welcome. Does anyone know the bush/bearing no if this is the cause?
Thanks, Mike

Mines got a similar vibration Will also check the same. Only problem is mine seams to be engine speed related not vehicle speed

Alan - I'm going to have a chat with a couple of Isuzu owning transmission guys tomorrow - will let you know what they advise and check with Blackwell Isuzu re relevant parts/costs. Question is how much shaft movement where it fits into back of transfer case is normal?
Mike.

No real clarification - bloke referred to a white metal bearing (or bush) up in transfer case where shaft fits - but didn't think movement was really excessive though seal needs replacing. None the wiser I'm afraid.

Somthing that comes up every now and then is a siezed ujoint. Remove the shaft and make sure all 3 universals rotate smoothly and check again for freeplay
