has anyone replaced the seal and bearing that the front axle runs on as it passes though the front hub and is it an easy job? Ive been getting water into my free wheel for some time causing several problems some expensive and I have just proved the water isnt getting in throgh the free wheel so the only other option is this seal in the back of the hub.It would also explain the intermitant scraping noise when the hubs are engaged

Yep I have replaced these. Two peice seal. Aparently there are several types of these seals?? so I had to send them to the supplier (Jackaroo world) for the correct ones... they are just standard rodeo, jackaroo/bighorn. Also there is that little needle roller bearing which is the same throughout the models..

Yep just did my passenger side one last Thursday. I replaced the CV and part of the deal is the needle roller bearing that Yarno mentioned as that is usually buggered and the seal. I got mine from Jackaroo world too and it came as a set 2 x bearings and 2 x seals. Did the driver side one 6 months ago and was waiting for the other CV to go before I changed it. My mechy did it but it can't be too difficult as the whole thing took him 2 hours. J

Yep, been here many times with superwinch hubs leaking like a sieve. It doesn't take long and I've done it that many times I can do it in an hour or less now. These drawings may be of interest: jameszone.freewebpage.org/4wd/PartsBook_FrontAxle1.pdfjameszone.freewebpage.org/4wd/PartsBook_FrontAxle2.pdfThis shows all the seals, and the tiny little needle roller (item 20). Do grease all the seals, certianly don't leave them dry and gritty. *Note: for some annoying reason clicking the links doesn't work, copy and past it into a new window and it does.

I have SKF part numbers that I could dig out for you, i have bought about 8 sets thanks to leaky (despite new) superwinch hubs. I also have the little needle roller Isuzu part number and seals somewhere. I've been meaning to colate it all into one place. I'll have a search tonight and see if I can find it all.

Part numbers:
Isuzu 8944077080 Bearing - Item 20 in drawing 2 above Isuzu 8971236920 Deflector - Item 7 in drawing 1 (I think) Isuzu 8971236910 Oil seal - (mates into Deflector I think)
Wheel Bearings:
SKF VKBA 1985 Vehicle Kit (which may be a generic number)
Anyway, SKF here in Wordsworth street are that used to me buying them they are likely to know what they are. Failing that I have dead ones lying around in my garage.

Axle seal has been done so shouldnt get any more water in the free wheel hub. Old seal had no rubber left and a 2mm deep groove cut in it The bearing had worn through the outer shell which was the only part of the bearing left. Probably means no more sqeaking in 4wd Mechanic reconed the shaft was ok so heres hopeing

To follow on on this topic, just change out the the passenger side front bearing over the weekend. Used NSK bearings which are the standard Isuzu bearing but in a different box and 120.00 euros price difference I know in this part of the world you can get these bearing of bearing wholesalers, not just motor factors & isuzu parts centers and just get the seals off isuzu parts. The bearings i removed are different again, they were Koyo Hi-Cap bearings. The joys of looking around....... ;D Also a big thank you to JamesW for his pdf instructions for changing the bearing, it works for troopers also Niall in Ireland PS if anybody needs the isuzu part numbers for a front or rear bearing kit i got them.

This wasnt the wheel bearing at fault but anouther small bearing and seal that is accessed from the back of the hub assembly that suports the half shaft. In my case water was entering here then eating the wheel bearings etc. Price from our Isuzu dealers was $62 NZ not sue of conversion to euro. Wheel bearing kits cost a little more

Will be checking the bearig you mentioned to ensure thats not what kill my wheel bearing check the conversion rate, for a genuine set of isuzu front wheel bearings over here in the isuzu boxes its about 200euros which is about NZ$380, 80euro/NZ$150 for the NSK kit......

For info I just brought a new NSK wheel bearing kit for my 89 LWB Bighorn from Auto Lab (isuzu/holden parts dealer) in Auckland for $62 inc GST. Also got the little needle bearing for about $25 and just waiting for the new seal to turn up as there don't seem to be any in the country.
