hi i live in western sydney & was just wandering if anyone knew where i could source or buy different ratios for our mu's. would like a 4.8 ratio if poss coz mine is just to tall, when i'm 4wding down hill its just too quick i find myself constantly on the brakes catching up too the guy in front. also very slow off the mark but even slower when towing. its an automatic running 33wrangler muddies. would appreciate if anyone has info or has done this themselves. also while the diffs are out i would like too put LOKKAS in front & one in the rear diff if they make one for the rear? if so has anyone got part numbers & place where i could purchase them thanx in advance.

Check your current ratio Some are 4.3 some 4.55. These are the only common diffs. I have heard of 4.8 but never seen one Might be able to find a small isuzu truck with the same diff and these ratios although front and back could be an issue

ok thanks i'll keep trying a few more diff/gearbox places but if that becomes a dead end i might try & go for crawler gears. i remember a post along the lines of terrafirma gears in the usa or something like that. maybe thats a cheaper & less stressfull way.

GU Nissan? Good strong diffs but isnt the diff head on the wrong side to mate up with the xfer case? I know a Pajero sitting on Nissan patrol diffs and coils. It goes everywhere

You will probably find the GU axle is 200mm too wide. I had the same thought with a Toyota 80 series front axle but it was too wide.

Big flairs and highly stable Could be an issue at wof time though. You can get these axles shortened which would help but most Isuzu solid axle conversions use the Hilux dif

I am reliably informed that what I should be looking for is a later model Prado front axle. That way I will end up with coils in all four corners. The ultimate would be the same as my mate scored to go in the front of his Lexus powered Surf (chopped to extra cab); a 2002 Toyota Landcruiser Trooper front axle. It is narrow enough for a Surf or a Isuzu and has 80 series CVs so are fairly bullet proof on a light vehicle.
