My speedo cable has broken.... does anyone know if a speedo cable from a bighorn would fit? are they standard? Both mine and the donar vehicle are MUA5 gearboxes so at least that end will be the same... I think?
Mine: 1991 MU, MUA5 gear box Donar: Bighorn year I'm not sure.... It's Steve's wreck... ( I haven't asked him yet :-O)

the speedos look different but the cables likly to be the same. To check it just remove your speedo and connect the ends with the cable run through the window instead of mounted correctly. You should know in 50 meters or so if it works.

Hi James - bad news mate - I've already flogged the one out of Steve's bighorn. Is it your cable outer that is had it, or just the inner core that has snapped. I still have a good outer from my broken one and the snapped inner can apparently be repaired without much cost. You can have them if of use. That dude you picked up my gear from in Bromley? recently may still have a bighorn cable - if bighorn ones fit your mu. Otherwise you'll probably pick one up through trade and exchange.
Mike.

Arhhhh, thanks for letting me know mike, saves me going after one that aint there anymore. Mine the inner core has snapped about 12" from the gearbox.... and have you noticed how many cops there has been around this weekend? Since it broke on Saturday I've had 4 cops pull in behind me... makes me nevious and start to doubt my speed estimates.
By the way did you have yr cell phone on ya Saturday? I tried to meet up with ya all, but got a fax everytime I rang yr number. At about 12:30 I went up river (a 50/50 gamble for up or down) for several k's but no sign of you... never mind next time.... I spent some time on my Bio-diesel project instead.

Hi James - yes did have cell with me Saturday but no messages. 021 217 4687. Went downstream from main road bridge - sorry it got screwed up for you.
Re cable maybe if you ring Parrots instrument technicians they could give you a price for inner cable repair. May not be much.

I've found a second hand cable here in Christchurch but have been quoted $80.... is that a good deal? Anyone know a better source? With parts like this at $80 each it's about time I bought a wreck....

James - just spoke to Parrots instrument technicians at 360 St Asaph St (366 9554) and if you take in your cable outer they will make up a new inner cable for about $30. Probably the best option. If your outer is stuffed you can have a look at my old one.
