Hey all, was having a think about it when i was bored at work and playing with air fittings.
What if you put a one-way valve on the diff breather lines so that it would only let air into the lines and not out, meaning that the diffs would slightly pressurize a bit when they get hot, the air would probably go past the seals, but they may hold a little pressure, and then the diff could suck air in the breathers when it needed to???
I'm sure there is reasons why this would be a bad idea, so hopefully you guys can think of them!!

If the air goes past the seals due to presure then this will more than likly take oil with it as half the seal is below the oil. I have heard of similat tricks though pumping a few psi into diffs etc for the same reason. Not sure how succsessfull

Yes, good thinking but not a good idea - as Alan said, it will force oil out of your axles and lead to premature failure of your seals. PVC hose is cheap as chips... run both diffs up to the back corner of your engine bay (either side) just beside the bonnet hing then loop them a couple of times and if you really want to keep stuff out put small fuel filters on the ends of each hose. www.off-road.com/toyota/cheaptricks/breathers/Also, if you don't mind the smell of diff oil you can run them into your cab for extra water protection... not a good idea tho, cos diff oil really is smelly (experience talking) ;D I have heard of people feeding them into their airbox, but you can get (depending where) quite a bit of vaccuum in there... so I wouldn't... Hope that helps Steve

I knew there would be a good reason not to, just a thought. Already have a breather line running from the back of my truck to the front picking up the rear axle, gear box, tranny and front diff.
Thanks guys!!

Interesting post Mulover.....Bravo !!!
I also think a check valve will do enough pressure to break oil seals.
