I have been trying to find information on the auto tranny that came behind the 3.1 and from what I have been able to find it is the aw30-40le. Is this correct? If it is correct, does anyone have a picture of the bolt pattern for the side of the bellhousing that bolts to the tranny? Here is an example, I am looking for the inner bolt pattern. Basically what I am trying to do here is find out if it will be possible to mate a Toyota A340F to the 3.1 so that I can have access to all the gearing options for the Toyotas. Thanks Rich

Thats uncharted territory Are we talking the Isuzu 3.1 diesel which would be very rare in USA or the Chevy sourced 3.1 petrol v6. The Chevy motor is normaly in front of a Turbo350 so I hope its the diesel I found this at www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/engine-and-drivetrain/2073-durability-a340f-automatic-tranny-related-information/BTW, the A340 is made by Aisin. The A340 series transmissions started in the late '80's and were also used in many years of Isuzu Troopers, Mitsu Monteros, and believe it or not, Jeep Cherokees, Comanchees, and others. The Jeeps have 23-spline output shafts, where the Toyota version apparently has 26 splines. The Jeep's version of this transmission is called AW4. There currently isn't an Atlas II or Klune V transfer case that can easily bolt up to the 4Runner or Taco A340F yet. But Marlin at www.marlincrawler.com does now make a couple of adapters for crawler boxes behind the 4Runner and Taco A340F. It may or may not fit the Tundra's A340F. I'm totally unfamiliar with your transfer case. But if someone here is looking for crawler gears or a dual transfer case, contact Marlin. It might work. Hope it helps.

Yes, we are talking about the Isuzu 3.1 diesel. I don't have one yet, but I don't have a rig to swap one into either. ;D But I am looking at doing the swap and am trying to see if I can get some better drivetrain options than just the stock Isuzu stuff. Here is a link to the tread I started on 4x4wire, although it hasn't gone very far. Here is the link to the thread that got me started thinking it would be possible. So with that in mind I was just looking for a picture like the one above so I could compare bolt patterns. If the bolt patterns work out then I will move on to other potential problems like the input shaft spline count and size.

As they are both essentialy the same box I would guess that the bell housings are interchangable but dont know for sure. Also what about the option of useing toyota gears in thr isuzu case I have a copy of the service manual I can email you if you want but its 4.8meg so wont fit a yahoo account. send me a pm with a address to send it to if you want it alan

I'm not really interested in the gears. What I am interested in is using the Toyota tranny to have access to the t-case options. I still have no picture from an Isuzu but it is starting to sound like it should bolt together.

Only thing I can offer tht might help is that a 2.8 diesel will bolt straight up to the 3.1 auto although some of the electronics are different. We had a member in Botswana that did this and had a huge job getting the auto to change at less than red line. Dont know if he ever fixed it. My wagon is manual so cant help more

The shifting shouldn't be too much of a problem. I found an aftermarket computer that will allow me to program my own shift points for the tranny.
