Last weekend a few mates and I headed up to the Thomson River south of the dam (East Victoria) for a quite fishing trip. The trip turned interesting when leaving. One of the tracks (C34) has a rather steep section that is about 200m long. When climbing out my left hand front hub ring gear let go, leaving me with a 2WD and still 50m from the top of it. After backing down and having a few attempts, l left the MU and went to get help. We ended up find a local guy at Heyfield that had enough cable and a 24000lb winch to make the 100m recovery. The hub gear could have been damaged after a hard landing on an earlier track when performing some rear wheel only driving. Has anyone had a hub shatter before? PS, we were fairly impressed to see how far I was able to get in 2WD.

I am thinking I have broken my front left hub lock. Beast pulls hard to the left under acceleration in 4WD.
With the Lokka the front right is still driving which made beach travel interesting on the weekend.
If a hub lets go is it usually time for a replacement or should I investigate repairing it?
Jimmy.

These are the first Asin hubs I have heard of breaking but anythings possible. Much better to break a hub than it is a cv or diff. Richard on this forum has broken 2 cvs and a diff in the last 12 months. Dismantle the hub and have a look If you can get parts its probably cheaper than replacement unless ypou can easily get a second hand one They are the same as troopers rodeaos and jackeroos except that there is 2 differand axle splines so count the splines on the drive axle first
