Which gear box

Could anyone tell me how to find out which gearbox is in my 97 MU 3.05 TD 4JG2 all metal top ?
On our recent trip to the far North we pulled our small caravan 1250kgs up some steep hills & under load ( & in 4L ) we had a hot oil smell in the cab, i was told that the MU was made with one of two gearboxes either the GM Isuzu, or the Toyota !

The toyota is the auto. Or at least its mechanicly the same as the toyota as the bellhosings are different.
Most 4jg2s are auto. Check the colour of the oil it should be bright red maybe slightly pinkish. If dark red change it and replace the filter. If its brown you could try the same thing but you are probably looking at a rebuild. If towing a big trailer with any auto fit an additional oil cooler.
If it is a rare manual check for leaks and check the oil levels in both the gearbox and transfer case. top up or replace as nesecsary
