hi guys! this might be in a way similar to steve's thread below but mine is more of an inquiry so i decided to create a new one...
my pickup's got 190k on the clock and i still haven't change any of my clutch assembly (plate, lining, etc.) and i think it still packs a decent pull...now, my question: is it still safe to take it to long drives? or is it more advisable to have them replaced considering my odo reading? will the symptoms be gradual when they happen or bang! im stuck on the road? when did you guys have yours replaced?
you guys have been really helpful..thanks!

Ive heard of clutches doing over 300000km without probs but also heard of them dying at 70000km. They generaly dye slowly so you will notice symtoms a long time before the end. Watch for revs not stabising quickly when change to a higher gear under load etc. Clutches are a big job with the best price I got of $326NZ for a kit and $500 to fit. If you have your engine and gearbox out for anouther reason do it at the same time but otherwise leave it till it needs doing

Howzit I have only had my 96 Plaisir for three %$#@& days and the clutch has gone 77000km as well. I am just hoping the dealer is a good bastard. Have been quoted $400 parts and seven hours labour EST $800-$1000

If it fails that severly in only 3 days the dealer has to fix it even if you didnt take a warrentee. When he objects start mentioning MVDI and comerse commision and not fit for purpose but be nice at the first aproach and keep these as weapons of last resort as he will fight back and even though you win you have nothing to drive in the 6 months it takes. The clutch price is about right but the labour is high try ringing round a few other mechanics The 500 labour cost on mine included a new rear seal and WOF. What failed as it might be the hydrolics not the clutch plate

Yep, jumped the gun and thought the worst. Then lost more hair today trying to sort a price for the job. The quotes steadily climbed with the cheapest now being $1000 up to $1500. The dealer nearly had a hernia, but was going to pay for the lot including transport, so good on him. I sat down and had a logical think, checked the fluid level and waalaa leak in the hydraulics. The dealer was even happier than me...cant imagine why....
