I just went to fit an LSD to my rear diff & when I checked the original I fount it was LSD !! but it takes virtually no effort to make it slip and thats by hand ! Could it be that someone has put in std diff oil? and will it cause this scenario? Is it repairable? (I have heard of people using engine oil flush in the diff for a short period to flush the plates and then refilling with LSD oil) any thoughts will be welcome Roger

Drain diff completely and blow out with compressed air or perhaps wash out with diesel. Make sure you get it completely drained again - jack up one side of rear if your diff drain bung is slightly off centre. Then go get some good lsd oil - try penrite limslip 85w140 - fill diff and run for couple of hundred ks then check lsd function again. If still fails lsd test, you can drop diff head out and have lsd adjusted and tightened by a diff shop - not too big a job - maybe 1-2 hours.

I've put Redline Heavy Shockproof Gear Oil in mine. Makes it bite really hard. Had one rear wheel off the ground and the other kep turning. Just like a locker. Does make quite a bit of vibration and noise turning on road though.

ps ; it not that great off road either . where or how can they be tightened ' I got mine tightened up by a diff specialist - you have to take the thing apart and either shim up or replace the clutch packs to make stiffer.

There is a lsd additive available that is meant to reduce chatter but cant tell you more. The chatter is just the plates gripping better than the ideal compromise. Reduceing chatter will increase slip reduceing its effectiveness off road but what is more inportant to you. you could also try replacing the oil in the diff. Mine does this so bad that it will chirp the tyres reversing out of my drive at idle but its brilliant climbing hills. The bighorn rarely does anything other than off road now so this isnt a problem to me but it would be annoying on a family car
