Everything from about 88 onwards Ratios will be 4.3 or 4.56 Cant find a code for ratios so you would have to check by counting rotations or teeth

Hehehe I know where there is a brand new 4.56 LSD still in its box and I'm not telling where. Alan is the 4.3 in the petrol models? I found some codes at www.itog.com/xr-001.shtmlGT5 - FINAL 41/10 98 I presume means 1998 (4.1 ratio) HC6 - FINAL 41/9 (4.56 ratio) S2J - FINAL RATIO 43/9 (4.78 ratio) S7C - FINAL RATIO 43/10 (4.3 ratio)

dont know about the later models. The diesel bighorn with 2.8 got the 4.3 unless it came from factory with 31 inch tyres. Some Mus have 4.3 some 4.56

The 31 10.5 15s were fitted standard to Bighorn 2.8 R models. They have the 4.56:1 diffs so I would assume the MUs with 31 10.5s are also 4.56:1. Harry.

After looking through my TFS workshop manual, you may need to be carefull about the size of the diff when you start playing around with ratios - there seem to be 2 combinations of ring gear size: 220mm rear/194 mm front - which has 4.300 or 4.555 available; or 194mm rear/167mm front - which has 4.555 or 4.777 available.
Looks like the larger engines 4JB1-T, 4ZE1, 4JA1 used the bigger diffs, and the smaller engines 4JA1, C223 used the smaller diffs
In addition to the above there is a higher ratio that had no corresponding front diff for 2WD models - 4.100 is in both 200mm and 194 mm ring gears for rear diff only

the 220 mm ring gear is refered to as a 12 bolt the 194 is a 10 bolt. This is why you can get a rear auto locker for early bighorns but no front and the later models only get a front auto locker

Just had a cruise around a wreckers yard in Rotovagas. Nearly every Bighorn in the place had G80 on the plate. Needless to say a LSD diff head left with me. Now what is the best oil to put in it.

I'm rather partial to Penrite Limslip 85/140. Nice & thick, tightens up the diff nicely.

Penrite works well in mine as well. Still gets a little skittish if you use to much throttle in coners though Will also skuff a tyre in very tight turns even at idle. Justin you should of seen if Harry still had a lsd for sale. He had 2 of them last xmas. One of them is doing great in my truck The other one was 4.56 though

The best I know of is Redline Heavy Duty Shockproof Gear oil - makes the lsd bite extremely well. But after getting water in the rear diff a couple of times ( before putting in the raised rear breather tube) and having to replace that oil at $22 trade for 900ml bottles of it, I've changed to the way less expensive Penrite Limslip also. I think about $23 trade or so for 2.5l bottle. Find it a good lsd oil also.

I can't really tell you what I paid as it was one of those deals where the mate who was with me was a good mate of the wrecker, it was cash, the wrecker got his arm got well and truelly twisted. It was cheaper than Harry was offering previously though.
As for the new one still in the box I previously mentioned, thats at the Holden Dealers in Rotorua and was discounted to about the same price as 4x4isuzu.com in Auckland were asking for a secondhand one. I don't know if its still there.
As for oil I'll try Penrite 85/140
I'll try and get a JoePublic price off the wrecker.
