Ok guys I think I am going to go the SAS (solid axle swap) on the MU as the wheel bearings are completly stuffed again, plus the stub axles are rusted bad on the seal area... and have had enough of limited travel. I'm looking at putting a Hilux diff with 4.56 ratios in, and leaf springs like the on in the pic, I'll be trying to keep the doors on though!! www.houlster.comI'm not sure what sort of steering it going to be yet any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Hopefully I will be able to take pics and post up for you. Cheers

Be interesting to see what such a modification would cost - if you cannot do it yourself. Happened to be talking about this to 4wd Upgrades, a company here in Christchurch recently and they had just fitted a beam axle from a hilux to a lwb bighorn and the bill was $3000 NZ. That's alot of roubles. Would the gains make it worthwhile? WHat kind of costs in Aus? Mike.

Thanks for the info guys.... I am getting my diff on sunday, it's out of an 84 model 4runner (hilux surf) with 4.56 gears. I'll have to strip it and put the ARB locker in it ( ;D ;D ;D ) and new king pin bearings, IFS hubs and calipers, 60's ventilated disks.... Blah Blah.... seals. I will also be cutting the IFS of the little MU this weekend.. ( ) so hopfully everything goes ok. Cheers pics comming.............................soon................

They are working now, well buddy I'd say that is past the point of no return, can't wait to see the finished article. How do you work out the geometry of where to mount the leaf spring hangers, or do you just line em up and hope nothing too important is in the way? J

Ah good to see they are working...
With the lining up I'll have to put a new crossmember up front and put the hangers (spring eye) on this, the shackles will get a mount off the chassis rail similar to the back. I intend to move the diff about 4.5" foward as to clear bigger tyres ( hopefully 37's thats the plan ) and to match the front I'll be doing a spring over on the back....

No ladder needed, I am tall enough, even though I have to jump up to get in....
