hi jan i just viewed the photos very impressive 10 outta 10 for your efforts just hope mine comes out as good as yours did. did you use the isuzu steering box & idler arm if so how does it handle steering when you've engaged the locker & your in rocky terrain for example?. if not what did you use & is it strong enough? thats the question thats been haunting me so far with mine?. cheers muvit

Hey Muvit
yeah I did use the original box, but was going the 60 series cruiser box because there was to much bump steer. The box sits to far back for having the diff 4" further forward than standard, which makes the draglink go forward to the diff (which would be ok for coils because it will follow the arc of the diff movement).
60 series box has the arm facing forward which would make the draglink go backwards to the diff allowing for the movement of the leaf packs.
Had no trouble steering it because the arm on the MU is to short and give more leverage, but doesn't give full lock. But in saying that I've never had a front shaft in there so not sure about the locker. Was fine with the IFS and locker.

thanks for the info yarn. but my pump seemed to struggle with the 35s even in the small ruts it wouldn't turn? so i have a nissan patrol pump & box that i'm going to put in a i'm led to believe its a stronger box although the pump looks identical to the isuzu one when you take the tank & fittings off it? so i'll just replace the box first & see how that goes before i play around with pump & pulleys. cheers muvit

I was hoping to add a flex pic of the Bighorn up Thompsons last weekend but it dumped it's cam belt first.we were down the other side and I was towing a holden powered Blizzard which wouldn't go.He was in one mud hole with a front wheel jammed against the side of the hole and I was round the corner in the next mud hole giving it death to get us both moving.I haven't pulled it to bits yet so I don't know if it was old age,too many revs or mud in the belt that made it let go.It was quit a trip.the air cleaner filled up with muddy water earlier on but none got in the intake or the turbo. Those drains don't work until you open them with a screwdriver. The only reason I knew something was wrong was the motor started to misfire because the air cleaner cartridge was coated in wet mud.The alternater got filled with mud and stopped working even though its where the aircon pump used to be.I got towed out in the dark by Prado with no tail lights and me with no battery so no headlights. That was fun.The guys recovered the Blizzard the next day.I'm hoping now that I can use the gear cam drive setup from the worn out rodeo motor. That's after I replace the bent pushrods and broken rockers. Harry.

oh yeah nice pic that'll have to take out the best mud spray of the year award me thinks . wouldn't of taken long for the inside to end up like the outside in those conditions. As far as muddy water in the air canister. I sealed up the lower drain hole & removed & sealed the middle chamber up as well making the air canister water tight. only have to worry about it if the water reaches the snorkel head then you'll need a periscope ;D cheers muvit
