Ive been thinking after reading a recent post. What distance can our engines last without major work if everything goes right. Can we get the mileage of each of our engine types without a rebuild. ie 4jb1,4jg2 both efi and non efi,4jx1 and each or the petrol engines. For starters my 4jb1 is at 200000km and still going strong but Im sure someone could double this

mines upto about 235,000 goes just like when i brought it, there does seem to be marks on the inside of the Odometer, so it may have done more, im also not sure if its had any major engine work. about 10,000k before i got it i was told it had $$$ done to the engine, i think that was new turbo, timing belt tensioners etc.
ive done the water pump, thermostat, alternator and aircon. and its all good.

Our MU has about 220,000 Ks has had the turbo replaced at 95,000Ks. The Wizard has 190,000Ks and am replacing its turbo today, it is making the same noise as it has since we got it at 140,000Ks, but it is a worry so out it goes. No major work done to either
Cheers Bruce

4JG2. 396,000kms. Completely original ... ummm ... including injectors, which I know is a no no and makes for bad economy and power ... :S Has had timing belts, regular services, usual consumables and thats it.

4JB1-T , just shy of 240,000 (239,654 to be exact) ... had the timing belt replaced twice at 200,000 .. the 1st one broke from a manufactoring fault, had some other bits replaced/fixed when the 2nd one went in from the damage of the 1st .. this was all before I got it a year ago .. the receipts came with the car ..

4JB1T coming up to 110,000km.
Low milage (67,000km) when I bought it, now seems to be a bad thing, sitting around a lot in Japan might have been the reason I had to get all the brake callipers overhauled and disks machined as they were seizing up.
Got timing belt, tensioner, and water pump done at 100,000km.

I wasn't looking for everyone's mileage only the champions which at the moment is 240000 for a 4jb1 and 396000 for a non efi 4jg2. no other results yet. Where are the engines we hear rumors about with 400000+ on them. Where are the petrol results and the efi engines?

4Jb1t at a fly's *** under 310,000 ;-)
It's thrown a gearbox and now, by the looks of it (but boy, I hope not), the injector pump.
Noisy (inherently, I've found), but running great. Expect the same mileage outta it again before anything else too major :-)
Cheers, Mattt.

Now I'm sure there are higher mileage 4JB1's out there however mine has 263000 on it. Had to swap turbos at about 260,000 with a second hand one and goes fine now. I've only had it since ~ 250k so can't say what else motor wise it's had however other than a new radiator suspect not much. Injector overhaul is probably on the list at one stage however while it still goes well I'm in no hurry. Edit - Looks like Mattt prooved me right with others with higher mileage

I know of one 4JB1T at 400,000, another 4JB1 (non turbo) in a delivery truck that has done over 1,000,000ks and still going strong, and another 4JB1T at 300,000ks - all in good nick.

so far 4jb1t 366000 4jg2 non electronic 396000 4ze1 230000 how about an efi 4jg2, a 4jx1 and one of the v6 engines. Well have to ignore the engines we have heard about as they are still rumours without proof. An old member from chch bought a 4jb1 bighorn with 460k on the clock and it went well till a water hose blew. A freind bought a rusted bighorn with 450k on the clock to wreck The motor sold on trademe for 1000 going fine. These cant be counted though

I have a 94 Bighorn. Replaced the turbo at about 111,000km. The original started to whine on shutdown. Cost just over #1,000. Now at 117,000km it would appear it has broken rings and I am in the process of taking the engine out. I am a bit concerned as to why it should break rings. I am not too happy about the perfomance of this truck. Ken
